How to Find Yoga Pants You Feel Confident In

Posted on

If you are a little self-conscious about your body, you might figure that you'll never feel confident in yoga pants. Something that form-fitting will just call more attention to your flaw, right? Well, not necessarily. If you choose the right yoga pants, they can actually flatter your figure and make you appear fitter and more slim. Here are four tips to help you find yoga pants you feel confident in.

Choose a dark color or pattern.

Darker colors are slimming, and patterns will detract any attention from your bulges or bumps. Luckily, you can find yoga pants in dark solids and in flashy patterns -- depending on your preference. If you're a bit more adventurous, you might want to opt for some deep burgundy or dark green pants rather than conventional black ones. If you're a pattern person, look for something exciting like pineapples or cherries. They'll look so fun nobody will be thinking about your body shape!

Look for a wide waistband.

When pants have a narrow waistband, it tends to dig into your skin and cause bulges. On the other hand, a wider waistband minimizes this bulging. When you have a wide, 2-inch waistband, you don't have to choose such baggy shirts to go along with your yoga pants since you won't mind showing off your waistline a little more.

Pick four-way stretch material.

Some yoga pants are made from two-way stretch material. These might work okay for someone who is really confident and has zero curves to hide, but they are not the most flattering for most figures. Four-way stretch fabric is much better, since it won't create as many bulges or pinch you anywhere. If you're shopping for yoga pants in person, try stretching the material before you put on a pair. It should stretch easily, but also snap back into its original position as soon as you let go of it.

Go for extra length.

Make sure the pants you buy are long enough to leave a few extra inches of material around your ankles. This way, if the pants ride up a little while you're exercising—which is very common—they won't start looking too short. Many brands sell their pants in short, medium, and long lengths, so you'll have some wiggle room here.
